  8. │ This record is a means of conveying information about a software   │
  9. │ product from the author to distributors and users.  It contains a  │
  10. │ normal, "human-readable" section (you're reading it now), followed │
  11. │ by a compressed data record.  The data record contains a great     │
  12. │ deal of information in a form useable by automated tools.  This    │
  13. │ allows BBSes, disk vendors, etc. to test automatically for         │
  14. │ permission to distribute, and to automatically extract product     │
  15. │ information for use in BBS files databases, vendor catalogs, etc.  │

  17. │ The VENDINFO file standard is published and is freely useable.     │

  19. │ The VENDINFO toolset includes a free end-user viewer, processing   │
  20. │ tools for use by distributors (BBSes, shareware disk vendors,      │
  21. │ etc.), and the editor used by author/publishers to produce these   │
  22. │ records.  These tools are either free or very-low cost shareware.  │

  90. If this is an unlicensed demonstrator version you may use it for a
  91. maximum 30 day period for evaluation and you may distribute copies of it
  92. to others for similar evaluation, but you must distribute it without
  93. modification and in the form in which you received it. This means that
  94. if you downloaded it  as an archive file from a bulletin board you may
  95. distribute only that unmodified archive (however re-compression of the
  96. contents using a different compressor is permissible).  Unlicensed
  97. demonstrator versions will place a "commercial" at the beginning of any
  98. search performed on documents prepared by them.

  100. Licensed versions bear a code identifying the licensee, and it is a
  101. violation of copyright to make and distribute copies other than as
  102. specified in the licence. You may freely distribute RACONTEX databases,
  103. but not licenced copies of the RACONTEX programs themselves, except as
  104. detailed below. Publishers may make an arrangement to distribute the
  105. search program along with databases they may be selling, on a royalty
  106. basis (contact the author for details).

  108. To encourage the "Shareware" method of software distribution,
  109. "Shareware" authors may freely distribute the search module (files
  110. RACONTEX.EXE and RACONTEX.HLP) along with their products if they use
  111. RACONTEX to prepare on-line documentation to be distributed with the
  112. product.

  115. Racontex is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the
  116. user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please
  117. do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The essence of
  118. "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with
  119. quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
  120. programmers to continue to develop new products. If you find this
  121. program useful and find that you are using Racontex and continue to use
  122. Racontex after a reasonable trial period, you must make a registration
  123. payment of $99.95(US) to Guy Software. The $99.95(US) registration fee
  124. will license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time. You
  125. must treat this software just like a book. An example is that this
  126. software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
  127. from one computer location to another, so long as there is no
  128. possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used at
  129. another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  130. same time.

  132. Anyone distributing Racontex for any kind of remuneration must first
  133. contact Guy Software for authorization. This authorization will be
  134. automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as
  135. adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
  136. distributors may begin offering Racontex immediately (However Guy
  137. Software must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept
  138. up-to-date with the latest version of Racontex.).

  140. You are encouraged to pass a copy of Racontex along to your friends for
  141. evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find
  142. that they can use it. All registered users will receive a copy of the
  143. latest version of the Racontex system.
